Turkeys

Al llegar el mes de noviembre en EEUU, todos empiezan a pensar en el Día de Acción de Gracias y en comer pavo.  El pavo es el ave oficial del estado de Massachusetts.  En la foto pueden ver pavos silvestres que pasean por nuestros patios y se posan en los árboles del bosque.  ¿Te puedes imaginar levantar los ojos y ver a estos gigantes en lo más alto de un árbol?  Bueno, no son los pavos silvestres que se comen, sino pavos domésticos. 

¿Cuál es tu día feriado favorito?  ¿Qué haces en ese día?  ¿Hay una comida que tradicionalmente se come en ese día?

Halloween!

¡Hola a todos y todas!
Esta semana estamos celebrando Halloween, aunque sea una tradición anglosajona.
¿Por qué? ¡Porque nuestro colegio es bilingüe!
Y porque Halloween ya se ha convertido en una fiesta también aquí en España.
Podeis mandarnos fotos de vuestro colegio en estos días si quereis.

¡Feliz comienzo de curso!

Hola a todos desde España,

Mi nombre es Astrid Martín, y soy profesora de inglés.

A mí también me gustan mucho los idiomas y conocer gente de distintos países, como a vuestra profesora, Janette. ¿Pensáis que somos un poco raras? Ja, ja. 

Aunque mi nombre es sueco, nací en España y desde pequeña sentí una gran atracción por el mundo anglosajón, así que cuando tenía quince años, me fui por primera vez a Irlanda para practicar mi inglés. Quedé fascinada por la experiencia y repetí durante muchos años. Así que mi hobby se convirtió en mi profesión. 

Además me encanta la naturaleza, practicar yoga, nadar, la música, charlar y reír con mis amigos, y por supuesto, estar con mi familia, a la de adoro.  

Estoy encantada de poder continuar esta actividad entre nuestros países con vuestra profesora y espero que sea provechosa y divertida.

Hi Everyone and Welcome to our blog!

I'm Janette Araya and I've been a Spanish teacher for over 20 years!  I love the Spanish language and all of the cultures in which it is spoken.  Yeah, I know, I'm kinda nerdy that way.  You may wonder if I am Hispanic since my last name is of Spanish origin.  Well, the answer is no. I was born in Pennsylvania and there was no one who spoke Spanish where I lived, except for the Spanish teachers at school.  But, I studied in Valencia, Spain while in college and I love to speak Spanish.  So, where did I get the last name Araya? - from my husband, who is from Paraguay, South America.  Maybe someday I'll tell you how we met.  It's an interesting story.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, crocheting and walking with my dog, Schatze.  This summer, I began to try my hand at furniture refinishing.  I think I'm going to enjoy that hobby, as well.  I find it very relaxing - even when something goes wrong.  I enjoy traveling and meeting new people.  I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you this year and learning lots of new things.
